Ulmus americana
American Elms was used historically to create shaded urban canopies until Dutch Elm Disease killed many of the trees and taught us about having diverse urban landscapes and in creating disease resistant varieties. The wood is ideal for furniture and flooring as it is hard to split due to its interlocking grain.
