Abies balsamea var. phanerolepis
The Canaan Fir is considered the same as bracted balsam fir. It was found in West Virginia in the Canaan Valley. The needles are dark green and short, arranged spirally on the branch and are rigid to the touch. The cones are cylindrical, grayish-brown, and have thin, papery scales, that grow upright from the branches.
